NEW byelaws are set to be introduced in parks across the borough.

Current rules used to police Redbridge's green spaces will be replaced with a set of 'model' regulations set out by the Government after being passed by the council.

The new byelaws will cover a comprehensive range of public activities from animal grazing to skateboarding, horse riding and the kicking of 'missiles.'

Once approved by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government the rules will come into affect in all parks managed by the council including Fairlop Waters and Claybury Park - which were previously not covered.

Details of the byelaws will be posted in parks and on the council's website.

A council spokeswoman said: "The updated byelaws are based on the model set by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

"The Parks Police, together with other Council Officers, will continue to be able to prosecute for breaches of the byelaws in parks and open spaces and that will now include these additional two locations.

"Public interest will be a key to determining whether an offender will be prosecuted and both discretion and reason will be used.

"The council will continue to prosecute those that commit the most serious offences, those who are persistant or those offences that have the most negative impact on the public who wish to enjoy the council's parks and open spaces.

"The byelaws were published for public consultation in September and agreed at Council on Thursday 14 January 2010.

"The agreed byelaws will now be sent to The Secretary of State for the Department for Communities and Local Government for final approval and are expected to come into force in 28 days from the Council decision.

"They will be published on the council's website, Redbridge i www.redbridge.gov.uk and on notice boards at the parks they apply to."
