A COMMUNITY group has called for new ideas to help keep a scenic duck pond free of weeds.
Members of the Woodford Green Amenity Group had considered using a dinghy to float out onto Warner's Pond in Woodford Green High Road to remove some of the duckweed that blights it for much of the year.
But they scrapped the plan after considering the safety problems involved, and have now asked other residents to come forward with proposals for tackling the problem.
The group made the call in its most recent newsletter.
It read: "From previous experience on small fish ponds the only way to remove it is to net it. But Warners Pond is a more formidable problem because of its size and depth in places.
"Some of our members suggested we hire an inflatable craft dragging a net. But this idea did not produce any volunteers and frankly it's too dangerous, so if any reader has a forumla to solve the matter we will be interested to hear it."
