AN INNOVATIVE new outdoor gym will be officially opened in a Redbridge park on Friday.
Residents will get the chance to improve their fitness for free by using the new adiZone facility, which is set to be launched in Ray Park, Woodford Green by mayor Thomas Chan and British Olympic hopeful Will Sharman.
The facility - which boasts a climbing wall, outdoor gym and basketball court, together with a range of other features - was installed by sportswear firm Adidas which is a sponsor of the 2012 London Games.
A council spokeswoman said: "Activities will be taking place during the opening event and will include demonstrations of how to use the equipment, a street dance performance and fitness staff will be on hand conducting Body MOTs.
"adiZones are permanent installations measuring 625sq metres and boast sporting facilities inspired by Olympic and Paralympic sports.
"The facility features a number of activities including a climbing wall, basketball ring, outdoor gym and amphitheatre for dance, aerobics and gymnastics. Each activity has instructions on how the equipment is to be used properly and safely plus details on local clubs and how to get involved.
"The gym is free to use during park hours and aims to give young people an opportunity to meet socially while being encouraged to play sports.
"adiZones were initially installed by adidas in four of the London 2012 host boroughs, and are now being introduced to towns and cities across the UK as the Olympic and Paralympic Games preparation increases."
The event is due to begin at 11.30am.
