A DECISION is set to be made on the future of an historic former fire station after it was vacated by a pensioners' lunchclub.
The Old Fire Station, in Wanstead, has been empty since Age Concern moved the service back into the newly refurbished Allan Burgess Centre - formally the Corner House - last month after more than four years away.
Fears have been raised over what will become of the 100-year-old building, in Wanstead Place, which was listed as one of the properties that could be sold to raise funds for the council's capital programme during its borough-wide consultation.
A report on its future is currently being prepared, with the council's cabinet due to finally decide its fate once this is complete.
