DID you vow to get fit this year but still haven't got round to joining a gym?

Well now's your chance to get in shape for free after the launch of the borough's first ever fully-equipped outdoor fitness centre.

Dozens of people of all ages and abilities gathered in Ray Park, Woodford Bridge on Friday (January 22) to pump iron, dance or have a go on the climbing wall at the newly installed Adizone.

Redbridge mayor Thomas Chan and British international sprint hurdler Will Sharman were on hand to officially open the innovative facility - which was paid for by sportwear firm Adidas to mark its sponsorship of the 2012 London Olympics.

Children from Ray Lodge Primary School, members of a local football team and mums from the area were all on hand to try out its extensive range of equipment, which also includes cycling and running machines and a basketball court

Cllr Chan, who lives nearby, said he hoped to use the gym himself later in the year.

He said: "I live close to Ray Park, so when it gets a bit warmer I hope to use the gym there myself.

"It's a great facility and has something for everyone.

"The equipment is quite simple to use so the whole community can have a go.

"Its perfect for mums to come along with their pushchairs and work out while their children get some fresh air or for people who want to do harder training."

Mum-of-one Sarah Devine, of Chigwell Road, Woodford Bridge, said the gym was ideal for busy parents to use.

She said: "It's a bit chilly at the moment, but I can see myself using it.

"I don't really have the spare time or money to join a proper gym, so it's nice to have the option of using (the Adizone) because it's free and is always there."

The Adizone will be available for use during park opening hours.

Four of the gyms were first installed in the official 'Olympic Boroughs' and are now being introduced to towns and cities across the UK.
