A ROTARY club is to send special “shelter boxes” to Haiti in a bid to help the relief effort there.
The Rotary Club of Woodford Green will send two of the boxes, which cost about £500 each and contain items including a ten-person tent and a basic tool kit, to the earthquake-hit country.
Terry Vanderweele, of the Woodford Green club, said: “Within three days of the earthquake, 700 boxes were sent.
“Last year, our club sent three to the Rotary store. On Monday, we agreed to purchase two more.”
Put together by charity ShelterBox, the kits can last for up to a year in all weathers.
Mr Vanderweele added: "The boxes were designed by the Rotary Club in 2000.
"Some of them have been made into an emergency hospital specifically for amputees in Haiti."
