A theatre company is helping deliver a crime prevention message to older people.
Attic Theatre Company is set to perform in Ma Kelly's Doorstep, a play designed to show people how to protect themselves against crime.
The performance is part of a campaign by Age Concern Waltham Forest and Help the Aged, which has been funded by the Home Office and Metropolitan Police in response to concerns the recession could spark an increase in burglary.
The play will include messages on how to beat bogus callers, deterring opportunist burglars and protecting against rogue traders.
Sheena Dunbar, chief executive of Age Concern Waltham Forest, said: “Distraction burglary is a heartless crime which can have a devastating impact on older people, both emotionally and financially.
"Simple actions such as using the door chain or having adequate locks fitted on doors and windows can give older people an edge against burglars and bogus callers.”
The production will be performed at the following venues and times: EpiCentre, 41 West Street, Leytonstone on Friday, February 12 at 10am; The Peterhouse Centre, 122 Forest Rise, Walthamstow on Friday, February 12 at 1.30pm; Chingford Assembly Hall, Station Road, Chingford, on Wednesday, March 10 at 1pm.
