A DJ who was sacked after accusing a Redbridge councillor of being a Nazi during a radio interview is set to go to the High Court to fight for his 'freedom of speech.'
Jon Gaunt called Cllr Michael Stark - former cabinet member for Children Services - a 'health Nazi' and an 'ignorant pig' during a debate about the council's decision to ban smokers from fostering children on his Talksport show in November 2008.
Mr Gaunt was sacked by the station but is now set to challenge Ofcom's decision to uphold the complaints made against him under the Broadcasting Code.
He is seeking a judicial review against Ofcom's decision, which he claims contradicts his right to free speech and to criticise a politician.
During the interview the DJ - who was in care himself as a child - said the council's decision would deprive many youngsters of a good home.
Cllr Stark said that the welfare of children was more important than the needs of foster parents.
Mr Gaunt apologised for his comments on-air.
