AN AFRO-BRAZILIAN arts and music group has been launched for residents in the Epping Forest district.
The Capoeira club is open to young people and adults of all abilities and has been organised by the council's sport and health development team in conjunction with Cordão de Ouro Capoeira London.
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, games, music and dance.
A council spokesman said: "The activity involves mixing simple dance and music to sweeps, kicks and defensive moves.
"It is creative and free flowing as it allows performers the freedom to move and express themselves, in stark contrast to the oriental martial arts which follow rigid teaching styles.
"The sessions are for the majority non-contact which makes the activity perfect for all ages and for people who wish to learn a creative free version of self defence."
The club will meet every Thursday during term time at Murray Hall, Borders Lane, Loughton.
Under-16 sessions will run from 6pm to 7pm, with adult classes between 7pm and 8pm.
