COUNCILLORS and residents took a double-decker bus ride to City Hall to call for more police officers in Waltham Forest.
Waltham Forest Council leader Chris Robbins, accompanied by councillors and residents with placards, made the visit to urge the Metropolitan Police Authority to bring the borough’s police numbers in line with other London areas with similar crime levels.
Addressing a meeting of the MPA, Cllr Robbins said: “We want a fair deal for our residents, they pay their taxes like everyone else in London and it is not right that we do not have enough police to tackle the issues we face every day.
“I am urging the MPA to answer our pleas and provide us with a fair level of policing that enables us to keep our residents safe.”
The City Hall visitors were drawn from Neighbourhood Watch associations and religious and community groups.
The council launched its “We’re Calling For Back Up” campaign in August.
