A HIGH street bank has urged customers who fall victim to fraud to contact them after a Chingford couple reported a phone scam.
Ann and David Jones, of Ropers Avenue, contacted the Guardian after being bombarded with nuisance calls by someone claiming to work for Natwest.
The man said he could help them reclaim their bank charges and knew the account number and sort code of their closed account.
The couple finally changed their number after receiving two to three calls every day for over a month from the same number - 001323888121.
A spokesman for Natwest said the anti-fraud department were not aware of this particular number, but had extensive experience of phone scams.
He said: "We are very much aware of this type of fraud.
"Fraud is an industry-wide issue which can affect all banks and where there is any evidence of fraudulent activity, we work closely with the police and other relevant authorities to tackle this crime.
"NatWest takes the issue of fraud extremely seriously and has stringent processes in place, which we constantly review, to identify fraudulent activity and protect our customers.
"If any customers believe they may have been affected by fraud, they should contact their bank as soon as possible."
