TAMILS in Waltham Forest will this weekend be voting in a referendum on whether an independent and sovereign homeland should be created in Sri Lanka.
Two polling booths will be open from 8am to 8pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The stations will be at Waltham Forest College, in Forest Road, and Unity Hall Community Centre, in Bramley Close.
The referendum, which has been organised by the Tamil National Council, will ask Tamils in the UK whether they agree they have the right to self-governance under a 1976 agreement.
It is aimed at putting pressure on the Sri Lankan government to grant independence.
A long and bloody civil war between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam came to an end last May.
Organisers of the vote in Waltham Forest are looking for non-Sri Lankan volunteers to oversee the voting process.
