PROPOSALS to develop the former site of the Louisa Oakes adult education centre are due to be considered by councillors tomorrow (Tuesday, February 2).

Higgins Homes PLC has submitted plans to demolish the existing building and build four houses and 36 self-contained flats on the Hall Lane site.

The plans, which will go before Waltham Forest Council's planning committee tomorrow evening, are the second to be submitted for the site.

The company states that, if the plans are approved, a proportion of the new development will be affordable housing.

There have been seven letters of objection received by the council, which raise issues including the impact of the development on neighbouring houses and on traffic congestion.

The proposals were referred to the committee as they were considered to be of significant public interest.

The former Louisa Oakes centre was sold by the council in 2006 amid protests from residents.

Higgins Homes' current application is recommended for approval provided a number conditions are met, including a full site investigation prior to development.

The meeting takes place in the council chamber at the town hall at 7.30pm tomorrow.
