A BELEAGUERED South Woodford man is disappointed after receiving just one response to his appeal to form an action group to fight vandalism.

Joe Raymond, of George Lane, was so disgusted with the increasing amount of destruction in the area that he used the Guardian to call for help in setting up a group to campaign for anti-vandalism measures.

He said: "I've had one response from a local man in Waverley Road. He left me his number but I accidentally deleted it. I would very much like him to get back in touch with me again.

"If the local community is not going to support me there's nothing I can do. I just want people to come forward and help me set up this group to take action against the vandalism."

Mr Raymond also said he would like to see big businesses making a stand against the scourge of wanton vandalism by investing money into fighting the crime.

He said: "There is graffiti on Sainsbury's wall and, as far as I understand it's their building. A big name like Sainsbury's can certainly afford to do something about it.

"They take an awful lot of profits but they're not setting a good example by failing to invest in anti-vandalism measures for the area.

"I would like to see all the major chain stores in George Lane setting a good example."

Mr Raymond also expressed dissatisfaction with police and the council, which he claims, are not doing enough to combat the problems.

He added: "I didn't hear from one councillor about the issue. I'm disgusted that none of the Liberal Democrats, who are supposed to represent this area, has got in touch with me.

"If they don't start pulling their fingers out, none of them will be voted back in. I feel very angry about the whole thing."
