PENSIONER Jean Farmer couldn't believe her eyes when she spotted a supermarket trolley rolling around her street, miles away from its home.
Mrs Farmer, of Colchester Road, Leyton, was amazed to see the ASDA trolley because it was nowhere near the superstore in Leyton Mills, which is 30-minutes walk away.
Mrs Farmer said: "It's so far away, I wonder if someone put it in their van."
The trolley spent two weeks blocking the pavement and sliding into the road, scratching the parked cars, so she rescued it and put it in her front garden.
But, despite calling the store twice, it is still there four weeks later.
So the community-minded resident contacted the Guardian.
"Twice I have spoken to some man. He said he would get in touch about collecting it but I have not heard anything.
"I thought they'd be grateful to get it back," she said.
When we called the store the deputy customer services manager, David Kaylene said that he very much doubted Mrs Farmer had called but said he would contact her to arrange for it to be collected as soon as possible.
