THE LABOUR group on Redbridge Council has been tipped to make significant gains in today's local election.
The party, which is currently the borough's second largest with 17 council seats, has been predicted to grab more wards due to a higher turnout of core Labour supporters - drawn to polling booths by the general election taking place on the same day (Thursday).
The Guardian newspaper has listed Redbridge as one of five Tory-led London councils 'at risk' from the Labour surge, alongside Barnet, Ealing, Enfield and Havering.
A recent study showed there has been a three per cent swing from the Tories to Labour at council byelections nationally since 2006.
Of the 63 members of Redbridge Council, 30 are Conservative, 11 are Liberal Democrat and four are independent.
Redbridge's local election count will take place tomorrow (Friday) at Ilford Town Hall, with results expected to be announced in the early evening.
