A CHARITY campaigner is appealing for volunteers to help sustain the good work of an important east London charity.
Steve Howey, of Forest Approach, Woodford Green, has been a volunteer ambassador for Richard House Hospice in east London's Docklands area for two years.
Richard House, in Beckton, gives support to children with complex and life-threatening conditions up to the age of 19, and needs to raise £3.1 million each year to stay open.
In his role he speaks to groups about the charity and tries to drum up support among fundraisers, and he now urging members of the public who can spare some of their time to do the same on one or two evenings a month.
Steve, 61, said: “Being an ambassador gives me the opportunity to help those least likely to be able to speak for themselves. The work at Richard House goes on without fuss, delivering vital support to children and their families.
“The relief and comfort the services afford is reason enough to give a few hours a month to help spread the word about this invaluable and much in demand resource.
“The value of the service has been proved time and time again over the past 10 years, yet it is still dependant on considerable voluntary donations in order to carry on its work “By giving a little bit of my time each month it means, that in some small way, this work can continue. It is a real pleasure to experience the generosity of the local community and to be able to spread the word about how wonderful a place Richard House is.”
