POLICE have named the elderly man who was knocked down and killed by a motorbike at an accident black-spot in Woodford Green last week.
Geoffrey William Rowley, 83, died at the scene of the crash on Woodford Green High Road, near the junction with Bunces Lane, just before 11pm last Wednesday (April 28).
Police closed a large section of the road around the crash site until the following afternoon while officers conducted a forensic examination of the area.
A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as multiple injuries.
The rider of the bike was hurt in the crash and was taken to hospital, where he is in a stable condition.
It is thought there was a delay in identifying Mr Rowley's body as members of his immediate family were out of the country when he died, and only returned to the UK in the last few days.
Following the crash, residents and businesspeople in the area have renewed their calls for safety measures to be installed at the junction following this second fatality of the year, after 29-year-old Fiona Daniels was knocked down and killed by a car in January.
Did you know Mr Rowley? Would you like to pay tribute to him?
