A PRIMARY school made its own special contribution to the 2012 games when it held a sponsored run for a local paralympic athlete.
Oaklands School, in Albion Hill, Loughton decided to support Jonathan Adams in his quest for paralympic gold with a fun run round the school playing field.
Jonathan, 17, trains at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, in Edmonton, London, and is already the Junior World Champion for the discus.
He came into the school to deliver a special assembly where he spoke of his preparations ahead of the 2012 paralympic games and how he had wanted to be an athlete from the age of nine.
Headteacher Pam Simmonds said: “He was very good with the children. He talked to them and encouraged them on the run. He's a very personable young man.
“In the morning the weather didn't look hopeful but it turned out to be a a lovely event for everyone.”
The school hopes to raise £3,000 from the run with the money to be divided between helping Jonathan and the Chigwell Disabled Riding Trust.
