A MOTHER and daughter have been sentenced for a tax fraud worth more than £600,000.

Nusrat Sami, 59, and her daughter Ibetsam Sami, 41, rented out properties across London, including one in Leytonstone, without paying tax on their earnings.

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard the pair earned more than £1.8m between 1999 and 2006 by renting out 10 homes to tenants who paid in cash.

They then failed to pass on the tax due to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Officers from HMRC started investigating the pair in October 2006 and they appeared at Waltham Forest Magistrates' Court charged with cheating the public purse contrary to commmon law.

In December last year, Nusrat, of Brondesbury Villas, north west London, was found guilty of seven counts and Ibetsam, of Princes Court, Wembley, Middlesex, was found guilty of two counts.

Nusrat was jailed for 42 months and Ibetsam was given a 200-hour community punishment order.
