A GROUP of charitable pub-goers have raised more than £4,000 for Help for Heroes.
Regulars and staff at the Old Hall Tavern, in Hall Lane held an event to raise funds for the charity, which supports British soldiers wounded in conflict.
The event, which featured a raffle, auction and live band, raised £4,070.
Auction items included a snooker cue signed by Steve Davis and tickets to the Graham Norton show.
One of the regulars Phil Smith, 46, of Sewardstone Road, Chingford, said: "It is a charity we have admired for a while and we decided we wanted to raise some money to help them.
"None of us know anyone who has been directly affected, but we felt the soldiers are doing a good job protecting our security and when they come back they don't have a lot of support.
"This was our way of saying thank-you."
Mr Smith said he was amazed by the generosity of people attending the event.
He added: "We raised more than double what we were aiming for.
"I was very surprised. People were amazingly generous."
