THIS week Fabio Capello picked the 30 players he thinks can bring home the World Cup for England this summer.
On June 1, that 30 will be whittled down to 23, following two friendly matches with Japan and Mexico.
Among the 30 men were a number of surprise choices: Jamie Carragher was coaxed out of retirement despite a disappointing season with Liverpool. After much speculation about Joe Cole's supposed omission, he was included, along with Manchester City winger Adam Johnson. As was Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone and Michael Dawson. West Ham's Scott Parker made the provisional squad after an outstanding personal campaign, while the proclamations that an injury-plagued Owen Hargreaves would make the squad proved unfounded. Sunderland hitman Darren Bent was also named as one of five strikers.
So, seven names will be cut from the 30-man party and miss out on the trip to South Africa.
The question is, who will get the chop? Below is the full list that Capello announced this week, as well as the sports desk's three differing opinions on who should take their place on the plane.
