EX-APPRENTICE star Tre Azam has just completed his first documentary as he launches a new career in film production.

As the repercussions of the general election continue to be felt, Tre's first feature, I'm a Muslim and the BNP Got my Vote, focusses on why some people in the Islamic community decline to take part in the political system, and how that has contributed to the rise of the BNP.

Tre said: “The whole point of the documentary was looking at voter apathy and why people vote for the BNP. We looked at Barking and Dagenham and thought if every person who was an ethnic minority voted would the BNP get in? And the answer was they wouldn't.

“I think it's terrible that we've got a lot of problems with the country and we have got an apathetic public. When I was making the documentary I discovered people are lazier than I expected. I thought they would have really good reasons for not voting but it's just apathy. Also some people don't vote for religious reasons and I think that's just stupid.

“I think the BNP have a very good strategy to try to appeal to people, but people shouldn't forget what they're really about.”

Since taking part in the third series of the Apprentice in 2007, Tre, 30, of Nevill Way, Loughton, has set up his own production company Treite Labs, which is based in Boundary Road, Walthamstow.

He was commissioned to make his first documentary by the Islam Channel which airs on Sky.

Tre said: “We had three weeks to make the entire documentary on a shoe-string budget, but it's worked like a charm.

“We've had a lot of feedback and a lot of people have said it looked really professional.”

For his next production, Tre intends to make a program focussing on the business community in Palestine.

“I want to help out the Middle East. I'm still trying for my Nobel Peace Prize,” he said.
