MORE details have emerged of the arrests made in the borough as part of a London-wide crackdown on hate crime.
Police made two arrests in Redbridge in the latest drive to tackle racist, homophobic and other hate crime, which included two early morning raids on Tuesday, May 18.
A 47-year-old male was arrested at Martley Drive in Gants Hill and charged on suspicion on common assault and criminal damage, and was detained to appear at Redbridge Magistrates Court today (April 19).
A 46-year-old man was given a caution for common assault at St Albans Road, Ilford. Another man, 48, was investigated for the same incident but no further action was taken.
Another man, 43, was given a first instance warning for harassment at Copthorpe Avenue, Ilford.
The operation – codenamed Athena – came a day after the International Day Against Homophobia, and is aimed at tackling hate crime in all its guises, including domestic, homophobic, transphobic, race and faith-related offences and offences against disabled people.
The raids took place across the capital from midnight in the early hours of Tuesday morning and resulted in 77 arrests.
