PLANS to scrap Accident and Emergency wards in the capital's NHS hospitals will themselves be scrapped it has been reported.

New Conservative health secretary Andrew Lansley told BBC London he will shelve a cost-cutting scheme that would have seen a number of A&E wards across the capital closing.

The news will please campaigners in Redbridge who have been fighting to keep the A&E at King George Hospital, in Goodmayes, Ilford, which is the borough's only hospital with an emergency ward.
