A man was killed last night in a crash involving what was believed to be a stolen car.
The unnamed 36-year-old from Dagenham died after being thrown from a grey Ford Fiesta when it smashed into a silver BMW in Romford Road, Chigwell.
The crash, near the junction with Sylvan Way, happened at around 10pm.
The driver of the BMW, a 21-year-old from Loughton, suffered a serious spinal injury in the collision, and was rushed to Queens Hospital in Romford.
A police spokesman said officers were investigating reports that the Ford Fiesta had been stolen earlier in the evening.
The man who died is believed to have suffered from serious head injuries.
He was taken to Queens Hospital in Romford by ambulance but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them at Chigwell road policing unit on 0300 333 4444.
