ENGLAND striker Jermain Defoe will face trial for a driving offence after the World Cup finals.
The Spurs ace did not appear at a hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates Court last week over allegedly driving his Range Rover while using a mobile phone in Loughton in October last year.
Judge David Cooper was orginally expected to set a trial date of June 11 - the first day of the tournament – but was informed by prosecutor Joseph Sticklings that Defoe is likely to be in South Africa with the rest of the England squad, according to the Press Association.
Mr Defoe, 27, of Cuffley, Hertfordshire denies the charge.
The judge scheduled the next hearing in the case for June 11 but the defendant will not be required to attend.
