A SECOND flag has appeared in the trees on a popular green, more than a month after the first was spotted.
Residents have spotted a union flag flying in the breeze on top of one of the large trees on George Green, near Wanstead High Street, along with a St George's Cross.
Back in April the Guardian reported that, after months of inactivity, the phantom flag-flyer of last summer seemed to have returned.
By September 2009 dozens of flags from the nearby Wanstead Golf Course had been tied to the upper branches of several large trees, and no-one in the local community had any idea who was putting them, why, or even how they were managing it.
The flags disappeared over the winter months, but now whoever is putting them there has decided to resume their – rather patriotic – duties.
Earlier this month, the Guardian reported that Redbridge cabbies would be permitted to fly their own national flags during the coming football World Cup, after rumours that they might be banned by the local authority.
Have you seen anyone putting the flags in the trees? Or are you the phantom flag-flyer?
