AN investigation has been launched to look into how the future of the Olympic Park will affect the local community.

The London Assembly investigation will be looking into the effects of any deals that are made for the Park's use after the games in 2012.

The Assembly’s Economic Development, Culture, Sport and Tourism Committee will look at future plans for the Olympic Staduim and the 800,000 sq ft Media Centre.

A final decision about who will run the stadium after the games is expected to be made early next year.

Len Duvall, chair of the committee, said: "The Olympic Stadium and Media Centre will be two of the Park’s largest employers and getting the right deal is key to guaranteeing the long-term legacy of the Games.

"Our priority is to ensure that the regeneration of the Olympic Park is done in a way that is sympathetic to the needs of the local community and maximises the long-term social and economic benefits."

The committee will hear from a panel of regeneration experts next month and will then meet with organisations involved in the regeneration of east London in July.

A report is expected to be published in the Autumn.
