TEN people have been arrested by police investigating the murder of a teenager in Walthamstow.

Wahab Zaaki, 18, of Old Church Road, Chingford, was stabbed in the chest during a fight between a large group of youngsters in Atlee Terrace in Shernall Street in March last year.

Today police arrested ten people at addressess in Leytonstone, Walthamstow and Islington today, where two guns and an unspecified quantity of crack cocaine were found.

Three men were held on suspicion of murder, while two women were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

A 16-year-old girl is being questioned over alleged firearms offences relating to the murder inquiry.

A further four people, including a 15-year-old girl, were arrested on suspicion of drugs and firearm offences unconnected to the investigation.

Mr Zaaki's mother Barikisu Dauda told the Guardian she was relieved there had been arrests made.

She said: "This is a breakthrough, so I feel relieved.

"But at the moment I don't know what is happening. I'm just waiting for the police to contact me."

Ms Dauda had previously expressed frustration that his murderer had not been caught and pleaded for witnesses to come forward.

Speaking on the the first anniversary of his death, his mother said: "I feel terrible, as you can imagine. Next week will be a year anniversary and I thought someone would have been caught by now.

"I'm sure people know who did it but are not saying anything. It makes it hard for me and the grieving process."
