AN 87-year-old man was blindfolded, bound and beaten in his own home by robbers.
The two men entered the house, in Woodlands Garden, Woodford New Road, in the early hours of the morning and attacked the elderly victim, before stealing cash and a television.
Neighbours said they found the victim trying to flag down passing traffic for help after the attack, which left him with bruising to the face.
He sought help at a neighbour's house and police and ambulance were called.
The victim was taken to the North London Hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries.
One resident, who did not want to be identified for fear of reprisals, said: "Whoever did this is heartless.
"We've known the victim for years and he is a nice, friendly man who keeps himself to himself.
"The fact someone could do this is disgusting. These people are the lowest of the low."
Another neighbour, who also wished to remain anonymous, said: “It is very frightening to think something like this was going on so close to home.
"We have been neighbours for 22 years and he is just a quiet, unassuming man who we have always got on with."
Residents said there have been a number of incidents in the past few months along the quiet row of houses and that there have been people coming from outside the area and hanging around.
Some neighbours are considering moving away from the area because of the ongoing problems.
The incident happened between 3.30am and 4am on May 10, but police have just released details in an appeal for witnesses to come forward.
The victim's family is looking after him while he recovers.
Police said there is no further description of the attackers available.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident yet.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Constable Naz Rehman on (020) 8345 3153 or Crimestoppers anonymously on (0800) 555111.
