FOUR of the UK’s best-known performance poets head to Stratford Circus for a Poetry Feast this weekend.
They include Hawaii-born live artist Stacy Makishi, who will share her lyrical tale of moon landings and personal loss, Around the World in a Lunar Day, which is in some parts spoken word and in others is expressed through the slow inflation of a balloon.
The show is a mission into space, in which Stacy delivers a mountain of facts in order to shut out fears of the unknown – and of death in particular.
Stacy’s recent work includes shows at the Royal Albert Hall, the Southbank and performance workshops at Tate Modern and at the Brut Festival in Vienna.
Also on the bill will be 2009 Chortle award-winner John Hegley and performance poet Patience Agbabi.
Holding proceedings together as compere will be self-proclaimed Poet Laureate, Hackney-born Luke Wright.
Poetry Feast takes place on Saturday, May 29, 8pm at Stratford Circus, Theatre Square, Stratford. Details: 0844 357 2625, www.stratford-circus.com
