TOTS at a nursery where thieves stole dozens of toys and play things have raised hundreds of pounds for new equipment with a sponsored bike ride.
Staff at Kingsley Pre-School in Austen Close, Loughton, were devastated back in December when burglars broke into a shed at the site and ran off with items worth hundreds of pounds.
The thieves are believed to have struck while the nursery was closed during the snow storms which brought the country to a stand-still.
But this week 47 youngsters, aged between two and four, got on their bikes and hit back, raising more than £600 in sponsorship by cycling round an indoor race track.
Nursery assistant Jan Donovan said: "We're really pleased with how it went, and the money is still coming in so we're hoping for a final total of about £800.
"We were all very upset when the burglary happened. The younger ones just got on with things but the thieves stole some slides which the children really missed.
"The children loved the cycle ride and the feedback we've had from parents was great.
"We've all been really determined to raise this money so we can get lots of new toys and equipment. Everyone has been fantastic."
The toddlers finished the day off with some cake and sweets as a reward for their efforts.
