AN elderly woman had her life savings stolen after being conned by a bogus caller.
The 98-year-old answered the door to a man posing as a tree cutter, who went inside her home in Walthamstow and stole the money.
The theft happened on Tuesday, May 18 at about 3pm, but police have just released details.
The man was white, tall and spoke with a London accent. Detective Constable Jared, who is investigating the case, said: “This is a very serious offence.
“The victim is a vulnerable 98-year-old who has had her life savings stolen.
“The person responsible needs to be caught.”
Anyone with information or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area should call Waltham Forest Police on (020) 8345 3163 or Crimestoppers anonymously on (0800) 555111.
Police are urging residents to verify the identity of door-to-door callers in a bid to prevent similar incidents.
