POOR weather couldn't overshadow a community's annual day of celebrations as thousands of people turned out for stalls, rides and fun at Debden Day.
This year's festivities, which took place across The Broadway, in Loughton, had a superhero theme with 13 costumed characters appearing to join in the fun.
The day was officially opened by Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing, and students from Debden Park High School, and East 15 acting school were on hand to put on dramatic performances as were dance groups Stage One and Academy Arts Performance.
A fun fair was on offer for younger members of the Debden community while older residents could enjoy a free lunch at the Winston Churchill pub.
Chairman of Loughton Broadway Town Centre Partnership Dave Stannard said: “It was disappointing with the rain, but in spite of it we had thousands of people. The children were enjoying free rides and bouncy castles, and I'd like to thank everyone for their support. A day like today couldn't take place without a lot of unsung heroes up at seven in the morning putting things up. That's what community is all about.
“We had a record number of businesses supporting us. Over 25 businesses helped financially which shows it's becoming even more of a community event.
“We also had more of the old folk this year who went for a carvery meal at the Churchill and were entertained by the acting school. It was a lovely day for everyone to come together.”
