A LONG-DISTANCE Essex walker hoping to make it to Rome on foot has been welcomed by a town's civic leaders.
Brian Mooney, who is walking to Rome from his home in Coggeshall, stayed overnight in Loughton at the weekend at the home of town councillors Chris and Caroline Pond.
He was then met at the town's boundary by Mr Pond and the mayor of Loughton David Wixley who accompanied him to his next stage- the boundary with Chingford.
Mr Mooney hopes to arrive in Rome by mid-August.
