PUPILS across the borough have been coming up with a image that inspires members of the community to take pride in keeping their town centre clean as part of a council competition.
The project – entitled A Clean Ilford – involved youngsters from ten schools in Redbridge, who put their creative powers to the test to design either a poster for display around the town centre or a design for a chewing gum board to be put in lamp posts near the entrance to The Mall shopping centre.
Chewing gum boards are a new addition to town centres in the UK, and are designed to be a place to hygienically dispose of chewing gum, rather than spitting it onto the floor.
The competition closed at the end of last week and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Kenneth More Theatre in Ilford on June 16, where deputy mayor Ruth Clark will present the awards.
