LABOUR candidate Wes Streeting has won the by-election for a new councillor in Chadwell ward.
The vote was held after Labour's previous victor, Wanstead High School teacher Mark Gittens, stepped down after it emerged he had broken election rules because he was technically an employee of the council.
The turnout for the poll, held yesterday, was just 25.5 per cent.
Mr Streeting got 800 votes.
In second place was the Conservative's Gary Monro with 580 votes, followed by the Liberal Democrat's John Tyne with 576 votes.
