THREE boy scouts from Waltham Forest are raising money to attend an international jamboree in Sweden next year.
Rhys Lanham, 14, of Parsons Croft, Chingford, and John Nightingale, 13, and George Nightingale, 15, of Hampton Road, Chingford, have been selected to represent north east London scouts at the world scout's congregation in Rinkaby, Sweden.
There they will be among 32,000 scouts from countries all over the world. But first they need to raise £2,200 each before they set off on their adventure abroad.
The money will go towards their travel and living expenses, while a percentage of it will go towards helping scouts from poorer countries afford to attend the meet.
The scout jamboree takes place every four years and this will be its 22nd occassion. This time, scouts will be taken back in time when everything was made by hand, learning how to hand craft their own living environment.
Rhys, who attends the Explorer Scouts in Chingford, said: "I am so excited. I am looking forward to meeting all the different cultures from different countries and possibly making some new friends.
"At the moment we need to raise our own money. We've been doing a few fund raisers to try to hit the mark but we've still got a long way to go."
Both Rhys and George took part in a sponsored abseil at Gillwell Park on Saturday raising more than £200 towards their trip.
