THE COUNCIL has asked permission to introduce eight new temporary classrooms at a primary school to address a shortage of places.
The authority has submitted applications for the installation of three two-storey mobile units and a one-storey double classroom at Gywn Jones Primary School in Hainault Road, Leytonstone.
A shorfall in primary school places has led to a rise in the use of mobile classrooms across the borough.
The Labour leaderships say every child due to start primary school this September will have a place.
But a total of 3,760 extra primary school places are expected to be required by 2012.
A number of schools have undergone urgent expansions to meet immediate demand.
The council has also applied to place a one-storey mobile classroom at Mission Grove Primary School in Buxton Road, Walthamstow.
