POLICE are warning people in the Stewards Green area of Epping to be on the look out after bogus callers visited a woman in her 80s.
The woman received a telephone call on Saturday from someone claiming to be from her GP surgery, who said that they wanted to visit her at home the following day.
Two people called at her home between 10am and 11am on Sunday, but she refused to answer her door.
The woman’s son, who asked not to be named for fear of his mother's safety, said that he had checked with her GP surgery and was told no-one had called at that time.
“She’s now too scared to leave the house, answer the phone or go to the front door,” he added.
PC Laura Martin from Essex Police, who is investigating the incident, said: “We know that two people went to the woman’s home on Sunday, but we don’t have any description of them and we want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious people or a suspicious car in that area at about 10am.
“We would urge all elderly people to be vigilant and be on their guard against calls of this kind. Please let us know immediately if you’re approached in this way.”
Witnesses should telephone PC Martin at Essex Police station on 0300 333 4444.
