THE highlight of the local music scene this week is undeniably the Leytonstone Festival, with a large amount of tunes sent to gush forth from all kinds of places across town from this Thursday (July 15) for the next ten days.

Some particular shows to look out for include a drum circle event at the Luna Lounge in Church Lane on Thursday (July 15) from 7.30pm. Entry is £4.

There's also a performance by “Jazz hoofer” Will Gaines at the Leytonstone Social Club on Friday (July 16), which starts at 8pm and costs £3.

Scouse-a-billy country rockers The Mojave Collective play the Sheepwalk in the High Road on Saturday (July 17) at 8.30pm. Entry is free.

Promoters What's Cookin' also host a free summer picnic mini-festival on Sunday (July 18) at the Henry Reynolds Garden, from 1pm until 8pm. Expect an eclectic mix of talented musicians.

And for something completely different, there's free bell-ringing lessons at St John's Church on Monday (July 19) at 8pm.

Or there's the London Improvisers Orchestra on Monday at O'Neill's pub from 8pm. It costs £5 and they're apparently rather good.

Also performing are punk-folk outfit Singing Loins, who even have a song about the Bakers Arm pub in Leyton – before it became a betting shop.

Doors open at 8pm for an 8.30pm start. Entry is free.

The delightfully named Chicken Legs Weaver plays the pub on Monday (July 19) as part of a night put on by the 17 Blues Club. Support comes from the equally excellently-named DJ Film Footage.
