A CAR mounted a parked vehicle as stunned residents looked on.
A wheel of the Renault Laguna smashed through the front passenger window of the stationary Volkswagon Polo after the driver appeared to lose control of her car in the narrow residential street.
Residents of Thorpe Road, Walthamstow, gathered outside as the unhurt female driver was taken away by police.
Myra Norman, who lives across the road from the incident, was washing up in her kitchen at the time of the crash and one of the first people on the scene.
She said: "I shouted out that there had been a terrible accident."
"There was a woman in the car and she seemed pretty calm. I could not believe what I saw and was just concerned for the woman."
John Murphy, who lives in nearby Victoria Road, claimed that moments before the crash the driver appeared to lose control of the Laguna and hit his neighbour's car.
Daniel Watson, 17, said he was walking home to Thorpe Road when he came across the accident moments after it had happened.
He said: "I couldn't do it if I tried.
"I work in a bodyshop so see a lot of stuff (like the accident) but not like that, it's madness."
A police spokeswoman confirmed officers were called at 6pm to reports of a collision in Thorpe Road.
She said a 46-year-old woman was arrested at the scene for alleged drink drive offences and bailed until September 1.
