A CONTROVERSIAL radio DJ has been taken off the air, in the same week as losing a legal fight against the broadcasting regulator over comments made to a Redbridge councillor.

Jon Gaunt's SunTalk radio show, run by the national newspaper, has been cancelled just days after he lost his High Court challenge to an Ofcom ruling which lead to his being sacked from his previous show on TalkSport.

Gaunt lost his job in June 2009, after Ofcom censured the station for the broadcast the previous November.

The host had a telephone conversation with Monkham's councillor Michael Stark live in on air, in which they discussed the council's plans to ban smokers becoming foster parents.

During the call, Gaunt referred to Cllr Stark as a “Nazi”, a “health Nazi”, and “an ignorant pig”.

Despite apologising at the end of the show, 53 listeners made complaints and Ofcom launched an investigation.

The Sun say the decision to scrap the show, which ran for three hours every weekday since its launch in April this year, was taken for financial reasons.
