A LOT has been talked about and generally fretted over by Spurs fans this week, but the fact remains that not a lot has actually happened.

While it was inevitable that, post-South African jamboree, our attention as fans would turn back to the rumblings of the transfer rumour mill, I for one had hoped that at least something concrete would have come to light regarding new faces in our squad.

Thankfully, one rumour that has been disproved is that Harry Redknapp would replace Fabio Capello as England manager.

Despite some worrying chatter from 'Arry himself, Don Fabio is going nowhere for the time being and our coach has just signed a new, almost certainly very lucrative deal to stay put as well.

They're smart operators, these managers. It's a bit like when Sven Goren Eriksson was pictured about Roman Abramovich's massive yacht, prompting rumours of a switch to Chelsea, shortly before the FA offered him a fat pay rise (except with far fewer air miles involved).

Meanwhile, there's talk that Martin Jol – that big Dutch teddy bear who really should have been given a free reign to run the team, at least before he was sacked at half-time during our UEFA cup exit a few years back – might return to the Prem to coach Fulham, after Roy Hodgson took over at Liverpool.

And for anyone who thinks he might one day make a glorious return to the Lane, consider this: according to my well-informed Spurs-supporting friend, Jol still owns a house in Chigwell.

The club has also announced that it will leave its current training ground complex in Chigwell, putting an end to all those local young fans hanging around after training hoping to catch a glimpse of their heroes.

And as a last note of the week, former Gooner talisman Thierry Henry has left Barca and signed for New York Red Bulls in the MLS...who play none other than Tottenham Hotspur Football Club in a pre-season friendly on July 22.

I expect travelling fans will give him a less-than-enthusiastic reception.
