FREE swimming privileges for under 16s and over 60s will continue in the borough until September, it has been announced.

Many local authorities are abandoning the scheme in August after the Government announced it would scrap funding for it as part of efforts to tackle the nation's deficit.

But Waltham Forest Council, in conjunction with leisure partners GLL, will pay to continue the scheme throughout the school summer holidays until Sunday September 5 when it will finally come to an end.

However some authorities are continuing with it for even longer, such as nearby Tower Hamlets Council which will fund free swimming until October.
