THE production company behind the programme Hollyoaks is looking for the most dramatic characters in Loughton, Chigwell and Buckhurst Hill to star in its reality TV show to be based on the area.

The show, which will be aired on ITV2 later in the year, will focus on the gossip and goings-on of the aspiring wags, playboys and models of Essex’s affluent ‘golden triangle’ and people can audition to take part from 1pm at Faces Nightclub in Gants Hill tomorrow (Friday).

A spokeswoman for the producers, Lime Pictures, said: “We’re looking for people whose lives are quite literally a soap opera.

“We want to hear from families who have more mouth than the Osbournes, more glamour than the Beckhams and more drama than the whole cast of East Enders put together.”

Anyone interested in auditioning should telephone the company on 0207 1477441 or email essex@limepictures.com

The Guardian took to the streets of Loughton to find out if people would jump at the chance to take part.

Faye Smith, 23, Thaxted Road, Buckhurst Hill: “I think they’ll find a lot of material. It’s wag culture around here. Girls go into clubs at 15 and go on holiday to Marbella at 15. They have all the makeup and the hair extensions. There are a lot of wag wannabes, but probably not a lot of actual wags.”

Amy Hill, 23, Cascade Road, Buckhurst Hill: “I think people will definitely be willing to audition. People here want to be in the limelight. They’re all fighting for it and they do things like jump in photos taken in the clubs, but I’m not really on that scene.”

Zeynep Erceri, 34, Shaftesbury Road, Epping: “I don’t think any of my friends will be auditioning. I’m not that kind of person, but there are people who would audition, especially in Chigwell. I think people try to act like wags, rather than being one.”

Tom Kendle, 18, Round Mead, Loughton: “I think a lot of people would get involved because they’re all drama queens. People like to be in the limelight. I’m not interested because I’ve left school and I’m in the army, so I’m away from all that sort of thing.”

Gina Peak, 18, Limes Avenue, Chigwell: “I think it’s got a captive audience here and I think a lot of people will be keen to get into it. Sixth form girls and people from my age group like to be glamorous.”

John Sawyer, 27, Trapps Hill, Loughton: “It’s a terrible idea. It sounds like a bad version of (Californian reality TV show) The Hills. I think it will get a lot of interest though. They will probably be a bit like the people on The Hills, but an Essex version. It sounds like an interesting programme, but it might be a bit in bad taste.”
