CYCLISTS will be encouraged to get on their bikes more often in the future, after the council approved plans to boost the mode of travel around the borough.
At the council's cabinet meeting last night (Monday July 19), councillors approved the Redbridge Cycling Strategy.
The council will work with other agencies to improve cycle lanes and develop new routes, such as the new Seven Kings Water route.
The strategy also includes ambitious plans by London mayor Boris Johnson to increase cycling by 400 percent across the city by 2020.
Redbridge will be home to one of TfL's new Cycle Superhighways, the first of which were opened this week in Barking and Morden, which aim to provide easy and safe cycle access to central London.
The borough's superhighway is due to open in Ilford next summer.
Redbridge has already become a big name in the cycling world after it was announced that it would host a Skyride in August.
