WALTHAM Forest Council and police are to hold a big community safety day on Wednesday (July 28).

Officers from the Met's marine unit, dog team and transport patrols will among those attending the event in Walthamstow Town Square.

Staff will be on hand to give out information, advice, crime prevention tips and even the odd freebie.

Representative from L&Q Forest Homes, Circle Anglia Housing and Ascham Homes will also be there to give advice on housing issues, while the council's enviro-crime team will be on hand to answer questions and give out information.

The council's cabinet member for community safety, Cllr Liaquat Ali, said: “While the warm weather has been a nice reminder of just how good British summers can be, residents also have to be awarethat, unfortunately, the number of burglaries tends to increase because of all the windows and doors being left open.

“The event in Walthamstow is a great opportunity to get some advice from people who know what they’re talking about when it comes tokeeping criminals at bay and, if you can’t make July 28, the Crime Prevention Team will also be on-hand to speak to at the council’s summer events.”

The event will run between 10am and 4pm.
