LEYTONSTONE promoters What's Cookin' have a summer shut-down show this Saturday (July 31) before they all go and take a well-earned break.

Headliners on the night, held at the Sheepwalk pub in the High Road, are garage rock and rollers The Fabulous Penetrators.

Their lead singer is said to sound like the “rotting corpse of John Lennon” according to the promoters. Intriguing.

Support comes from rock band boy/girl duo Cowbell, who have just released their debut EP 'Oh Girl'.

Another rock n' roll duo, The Sons of Buff, start proceedings off.

Expect a raucous evening.

Doors open at 8.30pm for a 9pm start and entry is free – although donations are welcome.

Ye Olde Rose and Crown in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, has a series of music nights to enjoy in its main bar next week.

Urban Jazz Collective play some cool numbers on Monday (August 2) evening, with more smooth jazz courtesy of Los Otros on Tuesday (August 3) from 8pm.

Wednesday (August 4) sees an Open Mic night at the pub from 8.30pm, hosted by musical everyman Graham Larkbey.

All the events are free to attend.

Tribute act Dirty DC are down to play the Standard in Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow, on Monday (August 2). Entry price and doors TBC.

Waltham Abbey Folk Club, at the Royal British Legion building in Brooker Road, hosts a Singaround jam night on Monday (August 2).

Entry is £1.50p and doors open at 8.30pm.

It's blues jam night at the Plough Inn, Walthamstow, on Monday (August 2).

It starts around 9pm and entry is free. Backline is provided.

Mai Hernon headlines Walthamstow Folk club's night at the pub on Wednesday (August 4).

It's a welcome return to the Plough for Ms Hernon, who is known for playing traditional Irish folk.

Entry is £6, or £5 for concessions.

Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
